The VIES system allows you to check the validity of a number for VAT purposes.

The EU VIES system web tool allows you to check if a company is registered in order to be able to make cross-border business transactions within the EU.

VIES (VAT Information Exchange System) is a search engine (not a database) of the European Commission. When doing a search with the VIES tool, the data is collected in the national VAT databases.

Searching with the VIES tool can give two types of results: there is information on the EU VAT number (valid response) or there is no information on the EU VAT number (invalid response).
